Design exhibitions do more than introduce new products.<\/span><\/p>\n

They reveal how our relationship with materials, interiors and spaces is evolving.<\/span><\/p>\n

The September 2026 edition of Maison&Objet Paris, presented under the theme \u201cPulse in Motion,\u201d explored contemporary design through creativity, innovation, material expression and changing ways of living.<\/span><\/p>\n

From a lighting perspective, this raises an interesting question:<\/span><\/p>\n

What happens to design when daylight disappears?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Design Does Not Exist Without Light<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Marble, wood, metal, textiles and crafted surfaces are never experienced independently from illumination.<\/span><\/p>\n

Light determines how we perceive them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Direction reveals texture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Colour rendering protects authenticity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shadow creates depth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Contrast establishes hierarchy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lighting is therefore not simply another object within an interior.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is part of the medium through which design is experienced.<\/span><\/p>\n

As contemporary interiors place greater emphasis on craftsmanship, materiality and human experience, lighting carries greater responsibility for protecting the original design intention.<\/span><\/p>\n

From Illumination to Experience<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Luxury is not defined by brightness.<\/span><\/p>\n

A guest may never know the lux level of a hotel lobby. A resident may never know the CRI specification of a luminaire.<\/span><\/p>\n

But they experience the result.<\/span><\/p>\n

Comfort.<\/span><\/p>\n

Atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\n

Material richness.<\/span><\/p>\n

Contrast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Identity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Technology will continue to evolve, but its purpose should remain human:<\/span><\/p>\n

to make spaces feel right.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Longevity Is Part of Design<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The same thinking applies to sustainability.<\/span><\/p>\n

Efficiency is fundamental, but responsible lighting should also consider lifecycle performance, thermal management, repairability, replaceable components and long-term maintenance.<\/span><\/p>\n

A product that consumes less energy but requires premature replacement addresses only part of the sustainability equation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Longevity is also sustainability.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Beyond the Object<\/strong><\/h5>\n

One of the interesting conversations surrounding contemporary design is the relationship between objects, materials and the complete experience of a space.<\/span><\/p>\n

For lighting, this is particularly important.<\/span><\/p>\n

Light connects architecture, materials, furniture and human perception into one visual environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

This philosophy sits naturally within Flussirari<\/strong><\/a>‘s approach and the thinking behind the Illuminated Identity Standard (IIS)<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because the future of lighting is not simply about designing another luminaire.<\/span><\/p>\n
